Chris & Tracy in Chicago Saturday/Sunday 6-26 and 6-27-10

Hey all -

So tired after such a great weekend so I am going to try to make this post short. I just want to say that having my parents here made all the difference in the world. I feel so much more peaceful and so much less isolated.....I love my parents. I love my family, I love Steve, I love my friends, I love my doggie....

On Saturday morning we got up and slowly motivated - we had cereal with strawberries that Mom and Dad brought from home, then we decided to go to the Lakefront (about a 3/4 mile drive away) to go for a walk before the heat hit too hard. My parents were amazed, I think, with how pretty the lake front trails are and how nice for walking - people tend to forget that there is nature in the city too! We had a great walk before it got too hot - the day ended up in the 90s with lots of humidity after a middle of the night storm. We loved our walk - lots of people-watching, exercise, sunshine, nature, the water, tons of dogs at the dog beach playing like crazy, and then moisture hazing off the sand so thick it was like being in a steam room or a sauna!

Came back to the apartment, showered, then we went to the Fat Cat for lunch and the first half of the US World Cup game. Food was great but Dad was bummed about the price of beer - it is the city, after all! We stayed at the bar only for the first half, so that we could get back to where Dad would have a more comfortable seat and free beers....Fat Cat is just a block away so we walked home for the second half of the game and both overtime periods. Mom, I think, was a bit antsty, so I gave her bridal magazines to look at while we watched the US lose to Ghana 2-1.

After the game, Dad thought he might need a nap, so Mom and I looked at wedding dresses in magazines and online which was a lot of fun. I hope we get to do a lot more of that soon! Dad's nap didn't work out, so we decided to head downtown for dinner.

We rode what seemed like a really long train ride downtown - then hit the Taste of Chicago. It was much smaller this year than ever before, which was kind of disappointing, but we had a lot of different tastes of food and managed through the heat. Thankfully we went late enough that there was shade to walk/stand in. We ate lots and the 'rents had some more "expensive" beer - but it was the people-watching that we were in love with....

Dad was amazed at all the things people were wearing - and all the different kinds of people. I think he was in people-watching heaven - we were all entertained! We can tell you all kinds of stories when we see you....

After we ate everything we could humanly handle, we decided to head home. I realized that we were near Garrett's popcorn shop and I insisted that Mom and Dad had to try the Chicago mix - even though they weren't hungry and they seemed anxious to get back to the apartment, I convinced them to wait so I could buy them some fresh popcorn. The Chicago Mix is a mixture of cheese corn and caramel corn - meant to be eaten in the same mouthful. It's heavenly! I don't think they regretted it at all!

We were so tired after all the activity all day that it's a wonder we didn't sleep on the train back to my apartment - but it was loud enough that it would have prevented anyone from sleeping!

Came home, fed Sumi, did my shot, and Dad introduced Mom to "Dexter", one of my favorite TV shows. We watched that, and then we dressed Sumi in her lobster costume just for good laughs, and finally went to bed. I made the mistake of deciding to read some more "Twilight" though, and ended up finishing the book at 1:30 a.m.

I think I was so tired that the side effects from my shot weren't too bad during the night, but when Dad woke up at 8:30 I wasn't doing very well. Had a rough hour of being pretty sick but I managed to suck it up and we all showered and waited out a massive rainstorm....

Then we walked to the diner from the movie filming on Friday night. The waitress said that Vince Vaughn and Winona Ryder were in the movie and it filmed inside the diner, so we had breakfast and took some pictures to show everyone when the movie comes out...

Sadly for me, Mom and Dad had to leave then after breakfast. They made great time and even stopped in Kalamazoo to see DeShazos on their way home. I did a lot of work and then have been reading the second book in the "Twilight" series - "New Moon".

Now it's time to say good night!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU MOM AND DAD!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!
