Rainy days....6-10-09
Hello family and friends -
It's a rainy day, it's a rainy day, I'm staying inside cause I can't go out and play, why do we need the rain, anyway?
Yesterday I had a bit of excitement - Sumi skidded on some mud from a leftover rain shower and her leg went a little wonky and she actually screamed. She hopped away with her tail between her legs, but seemed all right walking back across the street to our house. I carried her up the stairs because she looked like she wasn't going to be able to do it herself, then I went in and had dinner. After dinner I jumped in the shower because I have to work on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. (and I am NOT a morning person), and when I got out of the shower Sumi was laying on the bathmat outside the tub. I accidentally nudged her with my foot and she immediately screamed again and jumped away, then sat in the corner of the bathroom shaking like a leaf. I couldn't figure out what was wrong - I tried to entice her with her favorite treat but she just wouldn't move. For a couple of hours I tried to make her feel better with treats and petting, but she was just shaking and obviously in pain. I left a message for the vet and really thought that something horrible had happened.
I thankfully had some doggie painkillers from when she was attacked by German Shepherds last summer, and so I gave her half a tablet. About an hour later she went down the stairs by herself and went for a short walk. We went to bed early....
Then, and this is totally weird, I woke up at 2:30 a.m. with my whole body in excrutiating pain....for no apparent reason. I had to take medicine - muscle relaxants and pain medicine and try to get back to sleep. The pain was nearly unbearable. Weirdly enough, when we got up this morning, Sumi seemed back to normal and even climbed the stairs by herself. I, however, moved very stiffly and painfully throughout my day. This evening Sumi has shown a little bit of pain but I went to the veterinarian and got some more doggie pain medicine for her and she seems to be doing all right. We're just taking it easy.
Needless to say, it was a weird experience. Weird because of how hurt she seemed yesterday, and weird for how much pain I was in during the night and day today. I am accustomed to a certain level of pain on a daily basis but this pain was so bad it actually woke me up - hurt from my head to my toes and the tips of my fingers....too weird....
